Volcanic Lightning

Back on Earth, volcano-generated lightning has long been known. Broadly speaking, three types of volcano lightning have been distinguished. The first type, occurring during large eruptions is quite normal in appearance, except that it flashes through clouds of volcanic ash instead of through ordinary thunderclouds. These lighting displays are sometimes called “dirty thunderstorms” for obvious reasons.
